City Hunter: An Action & Thiller K-Drama

After watching the trailers and also reading reviews from K-drama addicts praising this City Hunter, I could not resist watching the series, what more after my ASTRO has been upgraded to ASTRO b.yond (yay, ONE HD here I come!). Other obvious reasons being the stellar cast of Lee Min Ho (Boys Over Flowers’ Gu Jun Pyo), Park Min Young (Sungkyunkwan Scandal’s Kim Yun Hui) and Lee Joon Hyuk (Three Brothers’ Kim Yi Sang).

Besides drooling over the hot men on my screen every Monday and Tuesday, the cinematography and plot of this drama is awesome and keeps me glued to the series week after week. It’s definitely worth every sen spent to subscribe to get HD quality as it enhances viewing quality (Oops, looks like I might switching over from KBS World then!).

City Hunter the drama is an original script based on the world-famous novel by Tsukasa Hojo, a renowned Japanese mangaka, in which the setting from Tokyo 1980 is switched to Seoul 2011. According to the original story structure, the protagonist becomes the City Hunter and his character develops while resolving gratifying cases.

Lee Yoon Sung (Lee Min Ho) is a talented MIT-graduate who works on the international communications team in the Blue House. He plans revenge on five politicians who caused his father’s death with his surrogate father Lee Jin Pyo and Bae Shik Joong, his sidekick whom he rescued when he was younger.

In his quest to track down the ‘Group of Five’, consisting of the President and several ministers and senators, he meets Kim Na Na (Park Min Young), a rookie secret service agent at the Blue House who is responsible for protecting one of the politicians he has been seeking. She is also assigned as his trainer in the joint programme where the international communications team takes judo lessons from the secret service team.

The chemistry between Na Na and Yoon Sung is undeniable though they try to act cool around each other. Yoon Sung creates a playboy image for himself to camouflage his ‘night activities’ as the City Hunter, and Na Na misunderstands by assuming that he is indeed one when he tried to make moves on her.

Since Shik Joong mysteriously keeps a photo of her which Yoon Sung talks to when he was lonely, he felt a connection with her since the first day he met her face to face and vows to protect her no matter what. When she was almost evicted out of flat and can’t afford to pay her comatose father’s hospital bills, he swooped in and rescued her.

Yoon Sung demands to stay with her in her flat which he had bought up, in the pretence that he owns the place and needs someone to cook and clean for him, but in actual fact wanting to keep watch over her to make sure she is safe. Soon after, she begins to suspect that Yoon Sung might be the City Hunter everyone has been looking for, and with whom she had various close encounters while on the job.

Will her guess turn out to be right? Tune in to City Hunter every Monday and Tuesday on ASTRO b.yond’s ONE HD Channel 393 at 9.00pm and to find out more about this shocking revelation!

The author loves the OST of this drama as it is also packed with powerful names such as Lim Jae Bum, Kim Bo Kyung (my favourite singer and song), SHINee's Jonghyun, KARA's Park Gyuri, as well as groups such as Rainbow, Girl's Day and Apple Mango.
